Rotational symmetry detection in 3D using reflectional symmetry candidates and quaternion-based rotation parameterization

The property of symmetry in 3D objects is helpful various applications such as object alignment, compression, symmetrical editing or reconstruction incomplete objects. However, its robust and efficient detection a challenging task. two most commonly occurring types are probably reflectional rotational symmetry. While methods quite plentiful, this does not seem to be the case with detection. In paper use approximate symmetries derive plausible proposed that can integrated multiple different approaches for One specific approach, based on maximizing given measure, chosen combined idea. A modification maximization step rotations further using simple, yet efficient, quaternion-based parameterization rotation transformation which seems novel field results confirm combination provides solution finding point set handle symmetry, noisy input even partial data.
